Applications

Precision with purpose.

Force-sensing technology developed with the complexity of orthopaedic surgery in mind.

PRIMARY APPLICATION / HIP REPLACEMENT

Understanding the balance within a joint.

Hip replacement surgery brings implant positioning, joint geometry and soft-tissue balance together. ArtioSense’s primary development focus is measuring forces within the joint during surgical assessment.

The intended role is to provide quantitative force information alongside a surgeon’s existing clinical judgement, not to replace it.

THE SURGICAL TRIAL

A potential fit with existing workflows.

The smart joint trial liner described in the Cambridge development programme is intended to integrate sensing into the trial stage of hip replacement surgery.

Trial components allow assessment before the final implant is placed. Force sensing at this stage is being developed to offer an additional source of information about the joint and its surrounding tissues.

QUANTITATIVE FEEDBACK

Measure. Interpret. Inform.

01

Measure

Sensitive microfluidic structures respond to applied force.

02

Interpret

Changes within the sensors can be translated into quantitative measurements.

03

Inform

Force measurements are intended to support surgical assessment and decision-making.

BEYOND THE PRIMARY APPLICATION

Potential follows evidence.

The ability to sense forces across curved surfaces creates opportunities to explore wider orthopaedic applications. ArtioSense’s current narrative remains centred on hip replacement development.

Any expansion into other joints or procedures requires application-specific research, engineering and clinical evaluation. No additional orthopaedic indication is presented here as an established product.
